Our focus, at History Anew, is to replicate an artifact to its original splendor. We specialize in five artifact mediums - wood/bark, antler, bone, leather and soapstone. Our replication costs are calculated based on the amount of ground work required to replicate an item. The more information we are provided regarding an artifact - the lower the replication cost.

Over millennia
- knowledge, ability, and technique have been lost and not
replaced; leaving those in the present age with the difficult task of
re-discovering and mastering forgotten skills, combining that understanding with in-depth
knowledge of the historical context in which an original was created
and then undertaking the actual task of replicating the artifact. History Anew has 15 years of combined experience doing exactly that - replicating a wide-assortment of items from an array of geographical locations and time-periods.

Replications 2010
History Anew recently aided the Danish Canadian National Museum in creating an exhibit that represents the first, proven, Europeans in Canada - medieval Scandinavians (aka Vikings). History Anew donated specific items, both replications (for locked display only) and reproductions (to be used within an open display), to create an exhibit space that the Museum envisioned. The PDF document, below, showcases only a portion of the items that are currently on exhibit at the Danish Canadian National Museum in Dickson, Alberta, Canada. Please see the Danish Canadian National Museum's Heritage Room Exhibit page for more information.
All examples have been found in Hedeby/Haithabu and all are dated to the tenth-century C.E.
Type 3 shoe with a type 3 sole.
Sole is attached in a Type 1 seam attachment.
Described as a low shoe with a seam on the front foot.
Found with and without lashings.
Original shoes were made of goat hide with the sole and head/upper formed from one, unbroken, piece of leather. Our replications, however, are made from one piece of leather but the sole is partially sutured to the right side of the head leather.
Replicated shoes are made from Birch Bark tanned deer hide that History Anew tanned using a traditional Scandinavian/Sami Birch bark tanning method.
Shoes were purposely underworked (left in a semi raw-hide state) in order to test durability against properly worked leather from same hide.
